Adrian hates our ‘Top Parts’ introductions and we’re really not big fans of having to write about how special somebody is just because they can ride a skateboard, so we’ll just leave you with this.
John Cardiel – Sight Unseen
Cardiel is probably my favourite skateboarder of all time. Fast, gnar and charging. That overturned backside air sums it up. He also has the sickest original style. Yep, original style. His style. You can’t copy style, kids.
Ricky Oyola – EE3
The whole Eastern Exposure thing was so good, and all the parts were revolutionary at the time. But Ricky’s was the heaviest. Charging through Philly streets at speed to Damage Inc. What could be better?
Jason Dill – Mosaic
Hard call between this one and Photosynthesis – they’re both sick. They’re both in my top parts but can’t really have two Dill’s. I like the natural lines, turn arounds etc. The whole part feels less choreographed, a bit more spontaneous. Dill kills that ghetto spot in LA and then shreds Parallel. Wait, maybe Photosynthesis, is my favourite…
Gino Iannucci – Yeah Right
Best style ever in my opinion, and you’ve never known what to expect out of a Gino part. To be honest one of Gino’s tricks can rival another pro’s full part. It’s So Easy made it even better, and back three manny ender is OG.
Bobby Puleo – Penal Code
Puleo will always be underrated. This part made me want to move to San Francisco asap.
Nate Jones – Real to Reel
I was super into this part when it came out. He was like a modern Jason Lee at the time. Simple tricks done beautifully. I’m all about it.
Mike Carroll – Modus Operandi
Carroll was born a classic. Classic dude, classic guests. First line pretty much smoked every line ever.
Guy Mariano – Mouse
Ender in one of the best videos of all time. Mariano was way ahead of everyone and this was his last major part until Fully Flared more than a decade later. Pay attention to the difficulty of Guy’s rippage.
Mark Gonzales – Video Days
It seems a cliché to list this one. But Gonz was way ahead of the game in this. It came out in 91 and blew everything the fuck up. We all owe the Gonz.
Grant Taylor – SB Chronicles
Had to get one recent guy in I guess. Thrasher’s SOTY is exactly that for a reason. There hasn’t been a ripper like this for a long time. He looks like a miserable bastard but holy shit he can shralp. It’s not easy to have a video part to Reign In Blood…
The SB Chronicles part is not online yet, so here is his Thrasher SOTY clip instead.
